Don't Let Anyone Else Call the Towing Company

Unless you are stranded in a very remote area, a police officer or other type of law enforcement will stop to see if you need help. In many cases, they have a towing company they always use in cases like this, and may offer to call the towing company for you. The problem with this is the towing company they call may be more expensive than one you would call yourself.

If you are hauling your items for a company that you work for, call them first. They may offer to pay the towing bill for you, or they can give you the name of a reputable towing company they have used in the past. If not, call some towing companies in your area to find what they will charge you so you can find the best price.

You do have to take the reputation of the company into consideration, however. If it is not one that you have never heard of, you may want to stay away from them. A towing company that is closer to your location will likely be less expensive, especially if they charge by mile.

Call Your Insurance Company

Call your insurance company, as they may have to get involved in the break down. They should be able to give a towing company name, or they may already have a company that they always use. This way you know they are reputable. The insurance company should be able to give you the price of what the towing company will charge you also.  They may even offer to call the company for you.

This will also make things go much easier if your insurance policy covers towing when it comes time to get reimbursed for what you pay out
