How To Know Which F-150 Model To Buy

You're ready to buy, but the new F-150 comes in 5 different models. The F-150 also has different packages and you can buy with the regular cab or extend the cab length for added cost.  What are the other differences, and how do you choose which one to buy?

Cost of the 5 Models

Price is an obvious starting point, but it is definitely one to consider.  The starting point of a new F-150 XL is $26,030.while the starting point of a new F-150 Platinum is $51,585. Hold your money in your pocket while we explore the differences in these models.

Luxury in the f-150

The choices are the XL, XLT, Lariet, King Ranch and Platinum and that's just the beginning,  While platinum might sound luxurious (aren't platinum credit cards the best?), what do you need and want in your new F-150? Upon closer look, one of the first decisions you must make is whether you want rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.  The rear-wheel drive model has greater fuel economy, with 18 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway.  The four wheel drive models run from about 15-17 miles per gallon in the city to 21-23 miles per gallon on the highway. Let's move on to accessories.

Accessories - Standard, Available, or Not Available?

There are accessories that come standard with the platinum F-150 but that are either not available at all or available for added cost with the other models.  Climate control and Multi-Zone AC are both standard in the platinum truck, but are not available in the XL.  A security system, cruise control, rear defrost, keyless entry, power door locks, heated mirrors, navigation system, power windows, premium sound system, satellite radio, mp3 player, rain sensing wipers, rear parking aid, automatic parking, and WiFi hotspot are examples of accessories that come standard with the platinum F-150.  That's a lot of standard accessories, but it's also a lot of luxury! When you look at the selection of F-150 vehicles, make note of which accessories are the most important to you. Do you want it all? Ford just might have it. For example, when it comes to safety, if child safety locks are a must-have, they are not available on all models, but they are available in the platinum.

Beyond Accessories

The platinum vehicle is heavier than the other models, but it can also carry more weight hitched to it.  If this is important to you, check out the specs.  The tire and wheel size is bigger on the platinum F-150 and the passenger capacity varies by model from 3 up to 6.  The Engine type is also different on the F-150 platinum.  It has a regular unleaded V-8 engine which means it has 8 cylinders, while other models carry the regular unleaded V-6 engine, unless you upgrade for an added cost.  Consequently, it has a greater amount of horsepower and torque, both of which are factors in a powerful truck.
